If you are like me and love your entertainment, but are bummed that you don't love Bible study quite as much, then try this new idea I have. Every time you watch a movie or tv show, explore the three main themes you saw in that particular episode or movie. For instance, if you were watching "Welcome to the Hellmouth" from the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer the themes you could explore include: friendship, new beginnings, evil, guidance, clothing, hairstyles, etc. Once you decide what three main themes you will explore, look them up with a Bible concordance and keep looking at verses until you find one that really makes sense with what you were just watching, then read more to find the context of that verse. Using the same show, but the episode "Prophecy Girl" instead, if you look up guide in your concordance you will come across John 16:13: "When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not be telling you His own ideas, He will be telling you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future." This makes me think that just like Giles guides Buffy and tells her what lies ahead for her, the same is true for us. The Holy Spirit will be our guide in life, however, since the Holy Spirit is God, He will never misdirect us or tell us lies, human guides on the other hand can and will.
I hope this sounds like an interesting tool for you to use to improve your interest in Bible study. Best of luck, please let me know if it works out or if you have additional ideas.
